For those that are learning the game of Roulette, it can appear a little daunting at first, as there are so many different numbers and bets. It does take a bit of learning, but once you have a better understanding of all the individual bets on a Roulette table then everything will start to make a lot more sense, and you will be able to play the game with more confidence.
So to help you get a better understanding of what all of the different bets on a Roulette table are, we have decided to break them all down for you individually. Then you will be able to read and understand all of our articles on the many different Roulette strategies we have documented on this site.
If you play European or French Roulette, then you will find there are some additional bets added to the game as to what you will find on the American Roulette game. We will cover those in this article too, so you will be well prepared for any version of Roulette that you want to play.Outside Bets
So we will start off by teaching you about the outside bets on a Roulette table. These are the bets located outside of the numbers on the layout. Here is a breakdown of the different outside bets you will find on a Roulette table:
Even money bets:
This is a wager on the group of numbers: 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. These are the only numbers included in this bet. The house pays 6:1 if you win and has a 13.16% probability of winning. These odds make it one of the worst roulette bets you can make. This is also called a “top line” bet. Graphic showing how many chips you need (of the same value) to make up complete bets of each number on a European Roulette table. So, for example, Completing the Zero costs 17 pieces and pays 235 pieces. Numbers 1 and 3 cost 27 pieces and pay 297 pieces. Number 2 is a 36 piece bet and pays 396 pieces; Number 27 – 30 pieces – pays out 294. In American roulette, there are two types of bets—the ones with a house edge of 5.26% and the one bet with a house edge of 7.29%. If you want to minimize the house edge on an American roulette game, then it’s easy. Just avoid the five-number bet, which is the only bet with the higher house edge.
These bets pay even money (if you bet £10 and win, then you will be paid £10), and they offer slightly less than a 50% chance of winning. The percentage is reduced, as if the ball lands on Zero (and Double Zero on the American game), then you will lose all of these even money bets. If you are playing the European game, then you will only lose half of your bet, so the odds are much better for you if you are playing these bets if you play the European version.
*Red/Black – You bet on the ball landing on a Red or a Black number
*Odd/Even – You bet on the ball landing on an Odd or Even number
*High/Low – You bet on the ball landing on a High (19 to 36) or Low (1 to 18) number
2 to 1 bets:
These bets pay 2 to 1 if they win. So if you bet £10 on one of these bets and it wins, you will receive £20 back. If the ball lands on zero (and double zero on the American game), then all of these bets lose.
*Dozens – You can bet on any of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dozens
*Columns – You can bet on any of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd columnsInside Numbers
Now we will have a look at the different bets you will find on all of the ‘inside numbers’. These are the 0 to 36 numbers.
